13th Biennial Conference 2019

WORLDING THE LOW COUNTRIES – 13th Biennial ALCS Conference 2019

6-8 November, University College London

As the truism goes, we are all connected, yet research on the worldliness of the Low Countries is still a rather minor fraction of Dutch Studies. The ALCS2019 conference attempts to broaden and encourage this type of research and wishes to world the study of Dutch, including, of course, its global varieties and relations. It invites speakers to focus on the interconnection between the Low Countries and the world, and on the different scales (local, regional, national, continental, global) and levels (aesthetic, cultural, linguistic, political, economic, ecological etc.) on which these relations take place.

Marking the occasion of the Centenary of Neerlandistiek in the Anglophone world (the first Chair for Dutch Studies was founded in 1919 at University College London) the 13th international and interdisciplinary Conference of the Association for Low Countries Studies (ALCS2019) was held at UCL on Wednesday to Friday, 6–8 November 2019.
